Lights, camera, action! The Baldwin family is trading the East Coast for Hollywood as Hilaria Baldwin officially joins the cast of "Dancing with the Stars" Season 34. The announcement signals a significant shift for the family, including husband Alec Baldwin and their seven children, who are the stars of the TLC reality series "The Baldwins."

“I’m bringing everybody,” Baldwin told USA TODAY. “We just decided to do something crazy and that we’d all go to L.A.”

A 'Mystical' Path to the Ballroom

Hilaria's journey to "DWTS" seems to be written in the stars. A lifelong ballroom dancer, she even competed with New York University’s ballroom team. Her TikTok videos showcasing her dance routines, often featuring Alec Baldwin, caught the attention of ABC producers. Baldwin maintains these videos played a part in her getting the gig.

“It's a kind of mystical journey that got me here,” says Baldwin. “I was just having fun. And I've been part of this ('DWTS') world for only about a week-and-a-half.”

Despite her extensive background, Hilaria initially hesitated, wondering if her experience level might be a disadvantage. “I didn't know if I belonged in this space,” she says. “For years, I've been saying, 'I've got a lot of experience. Is that a problem?' Apparently it's not.”

Challenges Ahead

Hilaria faces some obstacles. Beyond the competition, there are gaps in her Latin dance training. She stopped dancing 16 years ago due to a broken hip. "I closed the door on that part of my life," says Baldwin. "I started focusing on yoga, met Alec and we started having kids. My body is different now."

The "DWTS" voting process is another factor. The Baldwins have faced scrutiny over the years, and Alec Baldwin's involvement in the "Rust" incident has impacted their public image.

Hilaria, however, remains focused on the present. "Everybody these days has their critics, whether they're in the spotlight or not," says Baldwin. "I've learned in my 40s that if you go through life trying to prove things to people, then you're missing the point and you're missing being present."

Partnered with Gleb Savchenko, Hilaria sees this as a fresh chapter for her family.

“You collect the good and the bad in life along the way,” says Baldwin. “We're all looking forward.”

As Hilaria steps onto the "DWTS" stage, she carries not only her own aspirations but also the hopes of her family. Her journey promises to be one filled with challenges, triumphs, and perhaps, a touch of that "mystical" charm she believes brought her here.
