Julian McMahon, ‘Nip/Tuck’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ Actor, Dead at 56
The entertainment world mourns the loss of Julian McMahon, the charismatic actor renowned for his captivating performances in the hit medical drama Nip/Tuck and as the iconic Doctor Doom in the Fantastic Four films. He passed away at the age of 56.
McMahon's wife, Kelly, confirmed the heartbreaking news to Deadline, revealing that he succumbed to cancer on July 2 in Clearwater, Florida, after a private battle. His representative also corroborated the information to the Hollywood Reporter.
"With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer," Kelly shared in a touching statement.
She continued, “Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”
Born in Australia, Julian McMahon, son of former Australian prime minister William McMahon, began his acting career on Australian television. He gained recognition in popular soap operas like The Power, the Passion, and Home and Away before transitioning to Hollywood in the mid-1990s.
His career highlights include:
- Leading role in NBC's crime drama Profiler (1996).
- Part of the main cast of the supernatural series Charmed.
- Co-starring role as plastic surgeon Christian Troy in Ryan Murphy's acclaimed FX show, Nip/Tuck, which aired for six seasons and 100 episodes.
- Portraying the Marvel villain Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom in 2005's Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

More recently, McMahon played Special Agent Jess LaCroix across three series in CBS’ FBI franchise, co-starred alongside Nicolas Cage in 2024’s The Surfer, and played an Australian prime minister in the Netflix White House murder-mystery The Residence, a role that echoed his father's real-life position.
