As of early Sunday, 294 arrests had been made, including 30 individuals apprehended for breaking into a shoe store on the Champs-Élysées. Security measures had been significantly increased in anticipation of potential unrest, with 5,400 police officers deployed across the Champs-Élysées, key areas of Paris, and its suburbs.

At the top of the iconic Champs-Élysées avenue, law enforcement utilized a water cannon to safeguard the Place de l’Étoile, near the Arc de Triomphe. Police reports indicate that a large group, seemingly not engaged in watching the match, attempted to breach a barrier in an effort to confront the police.

Despite the unfortunate incidents, some areas experienced scenes of pure elation. At the Place de la Bastille, fans ecstatically climbed onto the base of the famed column, singing, dancing, and setting off flares. Motorbikes revved their engines to the cheers of the crowd as they circled the column. Prior to the incidents, the atmosphere was described as upbeat and filled with joyous singing.

The planned parade on the Champs-Elysees is expected to proceed, but under increased security.
