Our 'Eight For Omaha'

  • Arkansas
  • Florida
  • Florida State
  • Georgia Tech
  • LSU
  • Oregon
  • Texas
  • Vanderbilt

Breaking Down the Picks

Arkansas

Regional opponents: Kansas, Creighton, North Dakota State

Super regional prediction: Arkansas defeats Tennessee

Everything about Arkansas screams Omaha. The Razorbacks exhibit impressive cohesion, showcasing very few glaring weaknesses, and essentially check every box, both statistically and from an observational standpoint. They consistently rank among the top 20 nationally in nearly every key offensive and pitching category, solidifying their status as a legitimate contender. This remains one of the most dangerous and complete teams in the country, and we're betting on them to reach the College World Series.

Florida

Regional opponents: Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Fairfield

Super regional prediction: Florida defeats Auburn

Let's be honest – this is one of our riskiest picks. Florida faces the daunting task of winning both a regional and a super regional on the road, and then navigating the intense competition in Omaha far from home. However, this team is undeniably peaking at the perfect moment. The Gators demonstrated their best performance during the final stretch of the season, and they are entering a regional without a true offensive powerhouse. Additionally, potential super regional opponent Auburn has demonstrated offensive inconsistencies. Florida’s balanced roster and battle-tested core give it a real shot to scrap its way through. And with Kevin O’Sullivan, a coach who’s made nine Omaha trips, you can’t count this program out.

Florida State

Regional opponents: Northeastern, Mississippi State, Bethune-Cookman

Super regional prediction: Florida State defeats TCU

Head coach Link Jarrett knows the roadmap to Omaha well, having led the Seminoles there just last year. Now, he has Florida State poised for a return trip. The path won't be easy, as the Seminoles must navigate a dangerous Northeastern team and a Mississippi State squad playing with high emotions. A potential super regional clash with TCU or Oregon State would also be a challenge. But with Jamie Arnold and Joey Volini forming an elite one-two punch on the mound, and enough offensive firepower behind them, we believe Florida State has a strong chance to break through and reach the College World Series once again.

Georgia Tech

Regional opponents: Ole Miss, Western Kentucky, Murray State

Super regional prediction: Georgia Tech defeats Oklahoma State

Sometimes, emotional motivation can be a significant factor, and Georgia Tech is riding a powerful wave as head coach Danny Hall pursues one final trip to Omaha in his retirement season. But beyond sentiment, this team is built to compete at a high level. The ACC regular season champions are a formidable team, ranking 15th nationally in batting average (.314), 11th in slugging percentage (.535), 31st in on-base percentage (.415) and 18th in wRC+ (123). While their pitching staff may not be overwhelming, it should provide enough support to complement the offense. If the Athens Regional becomes chaotic, as we anticipate, Georgia Tech is well-positioned to capitalize and secure a winnable super regional.

LSU

Regional opponents: Dallas Baptist, Rhode Island, Little Rock

Super regional prediction: LSU defeats Clemson

We’ve had LSU in our 'Eight for Omaha' since the middle of the season, and there’s no compelling reason to change our prediction now. The Tigers are a well-oiled machine with a clear path back to the College World Series. Their regional is manageable, and a potential super regional matchup with Clemson appears very winnable. LSU possesses the necessary ingredients, including offensive firepower, elite pitchers, and a postseason pedigree, to make another deep run in the tournament.

Oregon

Regional opponents: Arizona, Cal Poly, Utah Valley

Super regional prediction: Oregon defeats North Carolina

Oregon has been knocking on the door for the past two years, making back-to-back super regional appearances but falling just short of Omaha. This year feels like the moment the Ducks finally break through. They've retained their entire 2024 super regional lineup and boast a pitching staff led by veteran lefthander Grayson Grinsell. The regional draw is manageable, and North Carolina may lack the offensive firepower to keep pace with an Oregon team that can excel on both sides of the ball.

Texas

Regional opponents: UTSA, Kansas State, Houston Christian

Super regional prediction: Texas defeats UC Irvine

If No. 2 Texas had been awarded the top national seed over Vanderbilt, no one would have blinked. The Longhorns won the SEC regular season title in their first year in the league and backed it with an elite statistical profile. Their draw might be even better than their seed suggests, as they appear to have one of the clearest paths to Omaha in the entire field. That’s why we’re picking them to reach the College World Series in year one under head coach Jim Schlossnagle.

Vanderbilt

Regional opponents: Louisville, East Tennessee State, Wright State

Super regional prediction: Vanderbilt beats Alabama

Vanderbilt will test whether old school baseball still plays in June. We’re not picking the Commodores to win it all with that approach, but we do think it’s enough to carry them to Omaha. While many teams chase raw power and velocity, Vanderbilt has doubled down on offensive athleticism, bat-to-ball skills and strike-throwing with diverse pitch mixes. The result: middling offensive numbers but elite run prevention. That formula can still play—at least far enough to reach the College World Series.

Predicted Super Regional Matchups

  • No. 1 Vanderbilt vs. Alabama
  • No. 2 Texas vs. UC Irvine
  • No. 3 Arkansas vs. No. 14 Tennessee
  • No. 4 Auburn vs. Florida
  • No. 5 North Carolina vs. No. 12 Oregon
  • No. 6 LSU vs. No. 11 Clemson
  • Georgia Tech vs. Oklahoma State
  • No. 9 Florida State vs. TCU

Only time will tell if our crystal ball is accurate, but one thing is certain: the road to Omaha will be a thrilling ride!
